Pro·pos·al n (1653) 1 : an act of putting forward or stating something for consideration 2 : a : something proposed : suggestion b : offer
— excerpt from Webster's Collegiate Dictionary
Your grant proposal puts forward a solution to a problem or addresses an issue within a grantor's realm of interest. Increase your chances for success by approaching the solution from the grantor's perspective rather than based solely on the needs of your organization.
Your organization may need computers and software to stay competitive, but it is doubtful that you will recieve a grant simply because you have a need. If you instead detail how the computers and software will help your organization solve a problem or provide a benefit for the grantor, your proposal will be much more compelling.
Our Grants Research & Development team has collaborated on a collection of CETC Proposal Writing Tips, available here as a Word document. The tips are offered as a walk-through of the grants development process and to help those crafting proposals understand what grantors seek from those they fund.
